Andermatt and Novonesis join hands to launch Cell-Tech® for soy farmers in Africa.
In May 2023, I opened the Andermatt in Africa conference with this message, “In Africa, the gazelle wakes up knowing it needs to outrun the lion, or it will be killed. The lion wakes up knowing it needs to kill the gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter which you are, but you better start running.”
The biological conversation in agriculture is no different and it’s time to adapt. The science has been proven and the trials continue, but the adoption of biological solutions continues to happen with hesitation, uncertainty, and often as a last resort.

Therefore, a new approach is needed.

No one knows their farm and understands its intricacies like the farmer. My own biological journey started in partnership with farmer James Leslie from Sesisonke Farms. Together we looked, listened and learned; combining scientific knowledge and on-farm practical expertise

Today, Sesisonke is an award winning > 1000 ha farm, proudly committed to growing the healthiest crops possible. Sesisonke has embraced regenerative farming, their meticulous record documents both their success and failures. Each season brings new insight, laying the foundation for the next
Andermatt in Africa appeals to farmers to stop the hesitation and engage with like-minded farmers. Share your stories, start the journey and put your farm’s sustainability first. It’s time to take back your soil and plant health, ensuring you are a price maker not a price taker.
During March, our team travelled with James to Kenya, visiting growers across a varied range of crops. The response was so well received that, in April, our Zimbabwean team returned to visit Sesisonke with their ‘lighthouse’ farmers to continue and share the learning.

Will you be next?

Andermatt Solutions in Ghana

Demeter Ghana serves Ghanaian farmers.

“We believe in helping farmers grow more with less. This means supporting farmers with the knowledge, data, and appropriate inputs to maximise their return on investment”.

During a recent trip to Ghana, Patrick Meyer, Andermatt Head of International Market Development visited pineapple producers, banana plantations and greenhouse growers cultivating chili peppers, cucumbers and ornamentals.

“Look, Listen, Learn”

During March 2024, the Andermatt in Africa team travelled to Kenya to ‘look, listen and learn’.

South African farmer, James Leslie formed part of the touring party. James proudly pioneers regenerative farming practices at Sesisonke Farms, in the Free State province of South Africa. Focusing on key staple crops; potatoes, wheat, beans and maize, Sesisonke believes premium foods and brands should be available to more than just the wealthy few:

“It is our aim to make a positive difference to the world by offering our consumers high quality, nutritional food at affordable prices, farmed and produced in a sustainable manner.”– Sesisonke Farms”.

Andermatt Kenya

Macrobial production in the spotlight.

Agriculture plays a crucial role in Kenya’s economy and accounts for approximately 20% of the GDP. The agricultural sector employs over 40% of the total population and more than 70% in the rural areas.

Andermatt Biological Solutions:
Steady Growth in Zimbabwe

Biological solutions have become well established in Zimbabwe, with their usage increasing across a wide range of crops. Biological products are gaining recognition and acceptance among growers, not only for their added production value but also for the increased market access they offer.
